Steven Hayes convicted in Petit murder case

Steven Hayes and a codefendant allegedly invaded the Petits’ Cheshire, CT, home around 3:00 AM on July 23, 2007, taking a husband, wife, and their daughters prisoner. At 9:00 AM, the intruders forced the wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, to go to the bank and withdraw a large sum of money. She was reportedly able to alert a bank employee that her family was being held captive, but by the time police arrived at the house it was on fire. The suspects tried to flee, but crashed their getaway vehicle into two police cars that were part of a roadblock.William Petit, the husband, had been badly beaten, but managed to escape his home with severe head wounds and seek help at a neighbor’s house. Autopsies of Hawke-Petit and her daughters showed that Hawke-Petit was strangled and her daughters died of smoke inhalation. More information here.

Body of abducted grandmother Pat O’Hagan found in the woods

Pat O’Hagan, who had nine grandchildren and lived alone in Sheffield, VT, was “forcibly removed” from her home in September, 2010, according to police. Her body was found last Sunday, about 100 miles from her home, by birdwatcher who were in the woods. More information here.

Woman Abducted and Raped by 2 Men

A Crescentville, PA woman was kidnapped by at least two men and raped, according to news reports. The 28 year old woman was left bound and semi-nude in Fairmount Park, after she was abducted Monday night near Lawndale Avenue and Comly Street, according to police. The victim reportedly believed that at least two men were involved and that they had taken her to an unknown house, where she was raped. Afterwards, the kidnappers dropped her off at Belmont Mansion Drive near Chamounix Drive, where a passerby noticed her and called police. More information here.

Orlando, FL Woman Raped at Knifepoint by a Home Invader

A man reportedly broke into an apartment on Semoran Blvd in Orlando, Florida, while armed with a knife. The man, whose face was partially covered by his shirt, is said to have held a woman at knifepoint before raping her. The victim was able to provide police with a description of her attacker, although he remains at large. More information here.

Gay Waiter Stabbed in Apparent Hate Crime

The stabbing of a gay waiter inside a Santa Monica, California Denny’s restaurant was a hate crime, according to police. According to news reports, employees of the Denny’s were sitting at a table before the restaurant opened when a man knocked on the restaurant’s window and asked to use the bathroom. When the man was allowed inside, he approached the table, and then asked a waiter if he was gay, police say. When the waiter replied that he was gay, the man allegedly stabbed the waiter in the neck with a knife. A suspect, reportedly identified as 24 year old Curtis Martin, is said to have been taken into custody for investigation of attempted murder and committing a hate crime. More information here.

Star College Softball Pitcher Nicole Ayres Stabbed to Death

A star college softball pitcher was reportedly stabbed to death, and a suspect in the case was struck and seriously injured moments after allegedly confessing to the crime. 28 year old Stephen Headley was reportedly charged with the murder of 22 year old Nicole Ayres, whose body was found on a soccer field in Southhampton Township, NJ early on Monday, with multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and back, authorities say. The relationship between Headley and Ayres is still not clear, according to police. More information here.

Pizza Hut Delivery Man Fatally Stabbed

A 33-year-old Pizza Hut delivery man was found stabbed to death late Friday night at an apartment complex north of Omaha, Nebraka. Police received a phone call at 11:01 p.m., said Sgt. Tucker Wheeler of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, informing them that a person was laying wounded on the ground. Officers reportedly found the man at 6608 N. 89th Court, and took him to the Nebraska Medical Center, but were unable to save him. The Pizza Hut delivery man was not identified because his next of kin had not yet been contacted. More information here.

90 Year Old Woman Raped in Her Own Home

A 90 year old Detroit woman was reportedly in her home around midnight when three men broke in. One of the men entered the elderly woman’s bedroom, and despite her attempts to fend him off with her bare hands, he raped her, according to police. The intruder then reportedly ransacked the home, before fleeing. The following morning, the woman’s grandson is said to have found her crying, hiding behind a bed. Suspects have been apprehended, and the criminal and juvenile cases against those suspects are pending. More information here.

Pizza Delivery Driver Murdered for a Small Amount of Money

Richel Nova, of Hyde Park, MA, was a “hard working man, making an honest living” as Domino’s pizza delivery man, according to Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis. While making a delivery, three assailants reportedly stabbed Nova to death, in order to take the small amount of money that he was carrying, before fleeing in his vehicle. A tip from a member of the community and surveillance footage led to the arrest of the three suspects, who police say are high school students.  According to news reports, those arrested were Alexander Emmanuel Gallett, 18, Michel Andre St. Jean, 20, and Yamiley Mathurin, 17.  More information here.

Elderly man beaten to death in his own home

An 82-year-old Seneca man who was found dead in his home last week was the victim of a homicide, the Oconee County coroner said today. An autopsy revealed that James Carver of 655 James Carver Drive died from blunt force head trauma and that he was slain, said the coroner, Karl E. Addis. Carver’s body was found in his bathroom Thursday around 6:15 p.m. He had been living alone. More information here.

Murdered Florida Man May Have Been Victim of Mistaken Identity

Police believe they know why a 78-year-old Florida man was murdered: He was likely the victim of mistaken identity. Deputies reportedly arrested 21-year-old Robert Pascale for allegedly using a baseball bat to beat Hugh Edwards to death inside his home earlier this week, and believe Pascale may have mistaken Edwards for a sexual predator who lives in the area.Another man charged as an accessory to murder has reportedly been talking to police. Woman, Father Stabbed

Roseville police have charged a 21-year-old Detroit man with stabbing his girlfriend and then turning the knife on her stepfather when he tried to protect her during an argument late Wednesday at a residence in the 26000 block of Pinehurst. When police arrived at the Pinehurst residence they found the 20-year-old victim suffering from two stab wounds to her left leg and her father being stabbed multiple times in his stomach and back, police said. Deputy Police Chief James P. Berlin said the stepfather attempted to keep the man from stabbing his daughter, and was himself stabbed as a result. Both victims were reportedly taken to an area hospital. The woman was treated and then released while her stepfather reportedly remains listed in critical condition after several hours of surgery.  More information here.

Charges in Lincoln Park Rape and Robbery

An 19-year-old Chicago man has been charged in a weekend Lincoln Park rape and robbery, according to police. Marvin Hudson allegedly came up to a 21-year-old woman in the 1700 block of North Halsted Street about 2 a.m. Saturday and pulled her into an alley, Chicago police said in a news release. There he demanded the contents of the woman’s purse and then raped her, they said. Court records indicate Hudson has been arrested several times in the last three years on misdemeanor charges, and pleaded guilty in a misdemeanor trespassing case in Chicago in January. Nova Southeastern Professor Murdered by Violent Home Invader

A Nova Southeastern University science professor is dead following an overnight home invasion. Police say that an armed man entered the home around 12:34 a.m. at Northwest Sixth Court and 75th Terrace in Plantation, tied up a married couple and robbed them. Police spokesman Detective Robert Rettig said the robber then fatally shot the 46-year-old man. Investigators say the intruder then set multiple fires inside the house before fleeing the scene. The woman escaped the burning house with her 5-year-old child. She ran to a neighbor’s house and he called the police. When firefighters arrived on scene they discovered the victim inside the home. Philadelphia, PA man found fatally stabbed

A man was stabbed to death in West Philadelphia last night, police said. The victim, whose age and name were not available, was stabbed in the back with an unknown object around 10:30 p.m. in the area of 56th and Walnut Streets, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests were reported.  More information here.

Woman kidnapped and raped in Kansas City

A 28-year-old woman told police she was raped today by a man who attacked her as she was getting cigarettes from her car in her driveway. The incident began about 3:10 a.m. near 18th Street and Elmwood Avenue. The woman said the man forced her into the car at gunpoint. They drove several blocks away and parked, where the man raped and sodomized her. After the woman bit the suspect’s cheek, the man fled. The victim drove to a patrol division station and reported the crime. More information here.

Australian man stabbed in his own bed

The 43-year-old was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital after allegedly being stabbed twice in the chest and slashed on his arms. Police have arrested a 31-year-old man. Police said the incident took place in Bilson St about 8.30pm. It is believed two men went to the house following a dispute with the alleged victim earlier in the day. “When the pair arrived at the house they called out to the resident and then went inside,” Sen-Constable Wayne Wilson said. They spoke briefly with the man before they allegedly produced a knife. After the attack the two men fled. More information here.

Georgia man murdered by home invader

Shortly before 2 a.m., a man entered the front door of a split-level home in the 600 block of Adams Landing Court in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Georgia and went to a lower bedroom, police said. “Gunshots were heard, and the victim was struck at least once with a large-caliber weapon,” Gwinnett County police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly said. The man died from his wounds, and was found on the floor of his bedroom, Kelly said. He was identified as Yassin Mahmoud, 36, of Lawrenceville. The shooter, who had his face obscured, fled in a dark-colored sedan, witnesses told police.  More information here.

Woman Found Murdered in Cell Phone Store

A woman was reportedly found murdered inside Cellular Superstore on South Madison Street around 6:30 this afternoon. The victim’s name was reported to be Sandra Robinson, a store employee. Investigators reportedly believe the motive was robbery, but don’t have any suspects at this time. Police reportedly say Robinson’s boyfriend went to the store and noticed the doors to the business were locked, but saw blood through the window. When officers arrived, they found the woman’s body, according to news reports. More information here.
